Sequel to Wet. Written at the request of simplytoopretty.

It was raining again, and all he could think of was Chloe.

Clark Kent sat in a classroom at Smallville High, but his mind was a million miles away. No. His mind hadn't wandered that far. It was out on the football field. Except he wasn't thinking about football.

Last night he and his best friend Chloe Sullivan had been out together on the football field when they'd gotten caught in a sudden shower. They'd wound up taking refuge under the bleachers. They were supposedly just buddies, but hidden by the gray sheets of rain, they'd suddenly found themselves doing some pretty serious making out.

He wanted to do it again.

The bell rang, and Clark started guiltily, suddenly aware that he hadn't heard a word his calculus teacher had said. Not that it mattered much, because he could do every problem in the book in his head. He might not be great at other stuff, but math came naturally to his alien brain.

He got up, slung his red backpack over his shoulder, and headed for the door. Out in the hall, Chloe was waiting for him.

Just like a girlfriend, he thought, and the idea gave him chills, more so than standing out in the rain yesterday had. Chloe Sullivan was his girlfriend.

Except she wasn't, not really, because, well, they hadn't talked about that. They hadn't discussed the change in status in their relationship. They hadn't clarified things.

He'd tried, of course. He'd gone over to her house last night to talk. But instead of talking, they'd wound up sitting on her front porch, making out again. Her father's presence just inside the house had stopped them from getting as hot and heavy as he would have liked. But still, they'd kissed a whole lot.

They hadn't said much at all.

"Uh, hi," he said, smiling at her. He was aware his smile was too bright, too cheerful, too stupid, but he couldn't do much to dim it. He was ridiculously happy, and it showed.

"Hi," she answered, her smile just as bright as his.

They stood there, looking at each other, while a never-ending stream of students swirled and eddied around them. Gradually it dawned on Clark that she was waiting for him to kiss her.

His mind instantly rebelled from the idea. I can't kiss her. We're in public.

He considered that, trying to figure out why it mattered. He and Chloe had been friends for a long time. But they were obviously more than friends now, so what did he care if everyone in the school knew about it?

He looked at her smile, a smile he'd seen every day for the past four years. A smile he didn't know how to live without. And he began to understand why it mattered.

Chloe Sullivan wasn't just some girl he had the hots for. She was his best friend in the whole world.

And if he kissed her publicly, so that everyone knew they weren't just friends any more-- well, if their budding relationship crashed and burned, that would just add to the drama. People would be talking about them behind their backs, giving them advice, taking sides. The chances of them holding onto their friendship would be more remote than ever.

Besides, this was a private thing. It was just about him and Chloe, not about him and Chloe and the other hundreds of kids in the school. Their new relationship was very fragile, very delicate, and he kind of wanted to hold it to himself for a while, to protect it until it was strong enough to survive anything.

But he realized he couldn't just make out with her in private, and then act like he didn't like her that way in public. That wasn't a nice way to treat any girl, let alone his best friend.

His mind made up, he bent and kissed her, a long, warm, decidedly-more-than-friends kind of kiss.

Predictably, there were some whoooooos around them, but he ignored them. He lifted his head and looked down into her eyes, smiling.

"Hey."

"Hey yourself," she answered, smiling back. If she'd noticed his moment of hesitation, she didn't comment on it. "It's raining outside."

"Yeah." He blushed a little, remembering all the hot fantasies that had filled his mind while he'd been listening to a lecture on integrals... or supposedly listening, anyway. "I noticed."

"So I was wondering..." She grinned up at him. "I was wondering if maybe you wanted to go make out in the rain again."

"Chlo." He frowned at her, trying to look disapproving, rather than wildly intrigued by her suggestion. "I have to get to history class."

"And I ought to be in English class. But I'd rather go make out. Come on, Clark. Live a little."

He gaped at her, astounded that Chloe Sullivan, who was very likely going to be valedictorian of their class, was suggesting that they skip class in order to make out. Apparently he was a bad influence.

Or maybe she was. Because he was definitely considering it.

"Um... we'll get detention if we're caught. And you know, the team... if I get detention, I might have to skip a game, and they need me..."

She moved toward the door, and he followed her, without any intention of doing so. Memories of how she'd felt in his arms yesterday, how her wet body had molded itself to his, filled his head.

"We just need to be careful not to get caught," she said, glancing back at him. One of her eyebrows was quirked upward, in a funny expression he knew well, an expression that said, I'm too slick to let myself get caught.

"Um..." He was still trying to be the voice of reason here, but that was usually her role, and he found himself flummoxed by the shift. Plus he was distracted by the way her ass moved as she walked, but that was a whole different issue. "But we'll be kind of... drenched. Our shoes will squish for the rest of the day. I mean, it's really coming down out there, Chlo."

"Yeah." She smiled at him over her shoulder. "It's nice and wet and warm."

She disappeared through the door. He hesitated, just a minute, while her words ran through his head like an enticing echo. Wet and warm.

He followed her outside.

Behind him, the bell rang, and he realized he was officially skipping class to go make out in the rain with Chloe Sullivan.

Rain poured over him, drenching him. In front of him, Chloe was already soaked to the skin, her t-shirt and jeans clinging almost indecently to her body. She looked incredibly, mind-blowingly sexy.

He followed her toward wherever she was leading him, and smiled to himself.

This was totally worth getting detention for.

Nicely done! I really miss the sweet, cute happy times of early seasons, this story was a much needed blast from the past.

I totally agree. I also miss the happy times of the early seasons. When Clark showed so much potential. The show has become so dark and angsty, this fic is a nice flashback to better days. Thanks!

Elly! It's been so long. I've decided to go down the lists again because I don't remember the last one I read, hope you don't mind!

AHH SHUCKS! Such cuteness from the beginning. I love a Clark that can't stop thinking about Chloe, haha. And his mind just gets in the way of things, NO! Kiss her publicly, it's ok! YAY! HE DID! AWW ELLY THIS WAS SO CUTE AND FLUFFY! Look at Chloe being such a bad influence! LOL. VERY LOVELY!

Thanks so much, Chloe & Clark fan! Glad you're enjoying my stories. I never thought of doing a sequel to this story (it's a sequel to "Wet," in case you didn't notice), but I'll see if I can come up with something:-).
