Dean blinked, taken aback. “Hire me? Look, sweetheart, I don’t know if you’ve heard, but Castiel’s already got me helping you angels out enough.”
The girl slid off his baby, and he followed, sneaking a surreptitious glance at her butt, encased in slightly too-tight shorts. Nice view. She glanced back over her shoulder at him. “Castiel? Angels? Sweetheart? Is that supposed to be some sort of pick-up line?”
“Um. You mean you’re…not an angel?”
The girl stared at him. “You are Dean Winchester, aren’t you?”
“Um. Yes! Um, yes, that would be me.” Red-faced but grinning, he stuck out his hand for her to shake. He didn't usually blush around pretty girls, but this one had managed to rattle him somehow. “And you are?”
The girl turned, took his hand, and shook it firmly. “Chloe Sullivan. Reporter, Daily Planet.”
Dean immediately dropped her hand and backed up a bit. “A reporter?”
Chloe looked puzzled, then laughed. “I don’t want to do a story on you,” she explained. “I actually need your help. Like, with a ghost?”
“Yes,” Chloe said, her light hazel eyes suddenly dark. “There’s a ghost haunting the Daily Planet building. Three people have jumped out of the same window the past three weeks, and I knew two of them. They were good friends of mine, and I’m worried about who might be next. I need your help.”
Dean was surprised. Huh. It sure sounds like a ghost. And like this chick knows what she’s talking about. He looked at Chloe with brief respect, then asked, “What makes you so sure it’s a ghost?”
Chloe bit her lip. “You don’t think it is?”
“That seems to be your favorite word,” commented Chloe.
Dean glared at her. “Yes, I do think it might be a ghost. But you’re not a professional and could be totally wrong. Let me call my brother, and we’ll go check it out. Okay?”
Chloe looked a bit hurt, but nodded her head. “Okay.”
