I charge thee, fling away ambition
By that sin fell the angels
-William Shakespeare
At first the fallen angels intended to instruct humankind in the ways of righteousness. But when they came to Earth, they fell into the ways of lust, and sinned. They corrupted the Earth, and rather than righteousness, they taught humanity all sorts of evils-- fornication and warfare and impurity. At last God ordered them to be captured and chained by his archangels, lest the Earth be destroyed by their wickedness. And on the Day of Judgment they were to be cast into the abyss of fire, to burn in torment forever, as recompense for their sinful folly.
-from The Book of Enoch
The black wings quivered, taut with strain, as the captured creature struggled to fight its way free. But the trap was ironclad.
There was no possibility of escape.
Lex Luthor stood, watching the beautifully sculpted muscles bulge and flex as the creature fought for its freedom. It was a beautiful sight. Hair almost as dark as the wings fell around its face, and its golden body was visible from head to toe.
The swanlike wings began to flap, as if the creature thought it might be able to take flight if it fought hard enough. But it remained earthbound, and at last it stood still, head down, gasping for breath. At last it lifted its head. Long, dark eyelashes fluttered, and a pair of green eyes Lex hadn't seen for a decade gazed at him.
Lex. Let me go.
"No," Lex said, hearing the voice in his head as clearly as if the creature had spoken. "You left with too much unresolved between us. I'm not letting you go until we can discuss matters."
Let me GO!
It was a deep, inexorable voice of heavenly wrath, commanding a mere mortal to bend to its will. Lex stiffened his spine, fighting against his natural desire to acquiesce, and shook his head.
"No, Clark," he said softly. "You're mine."
