Sequel to Two Friends, One Bed.

"So did you sleep okay?"

"Uh. Well, I..."

"Geez, Clark, you sound like you need coffee worse than I do. And I need it pretty damn bad."

"Uh, okay, then. We can go downstairs and get some coffee at the Talon."

"Are you serious?"

"Um, you said you wanted coffee."

"Jerk."

"So when you said you wanted coffee, you actually meant... you didn't want coffee. Is that right?"

"Never mind. I don't want to talk about it."

"Don't get all huffy with me, Chloe. It's not my fault women don't say what they mean. You should all come with subtitles or a phrase book or something. I mean, if you have something to say to me, then just spit it out."

"Just forget it. I don't have anything to say to you."

"Hey. Hold it."

"Let go of my arm, Clark."

"No. I'm not letting you out of this bed till we talk. And I'm not letting you out of my sight, either. We have a violent meteor freak running around who can pass through walls, or have you forgotten that?"

"I haven't forgotten. But I'd rather hang out with a murderous meteor freak than you right now."

"Oh, that's nice. Come on, knock it off, Chlo. Stay here."

"Well... okay. The bed's nice and warm."

"So are you."

"Excuse me. I thought we were going to talk."

"Okay. Fine. Let's talk. Why are you acting like I did something wrong last night? You weren't exactly screaming and struggling to get away, you know."

"Yeah, you're right. I know it was a mutual thing. It's just that... well, the morning after you sleep with a friend is always kind of awkward."

"What do you mean, always? How many friends have you slept with, anyway?"

"Do you really want me to answer that question?"

"Uh... maybe it would be better if you didn't."

"Smart man. I just... you've been my best friend for a long time, Clark. I don't want anything to screw that up."

"Me neither."

"So maybe it would be safer if we just kind of forgot it happened."

"Okay. I can forget it happened."

"Oh, you cannot. Liar."

"I totally can. It's already forgotten. Trust me."

"Jerk."

"See, there you go again, saying things you don't mean. Why are you telling me we should forget about it, and then getting pissy with me when I agree with you?"

"I don't know, damn it. I just..."

"Are you crying?"

"N-n-no..."

"Great. Just great. I've never had a girl cry after she had sex with me. I must be losing my touch or something."

"What do you mean, never? How many girls have you had sex with, anyway?"

"Do you really want me to answer that question?"

"Uh... maybe not."

"Smart girl. Come on, Chlo, don't cry. I was just yanking your chain a little. I'm not going to forget about it. I mean, we did it three times..."

"Four!"

"Ow. Geez, and here I thought I was invulnerable. Relax, Chlo. I was kidding. I know we did it four times. Believe me, I remember every minute of it. And it was great. In fact, I was sort of thinking maybe we could do it again. You know, before we go downstairs for coffee."

"So is that why you pulled me back into bed? I thought you just wanted to talk."

"We can talk if you want. But I figure we can have sex at the same time."

"Yeah, because that worked so well last night. Sex doesn't lend itself to conversation somehow."

"Okay, so we'll have sex and then talk."

"But we haven't resolved anything, Clark. I mean, we haven't figured out what this means to our relationship, or where we're going to go from here, or..."

"Sure we have. We're going to have sex, and then we're going to drink coffee. Maybe we can get some muffins, too."

"Oh, you are such a guy. That's such a typical masculine way of approaching relationships."

"Thank you."

"Not intended as a compliment, moron. Men are so completely and totally... unanalytical."

"Yeah, well, at least we don't analyze relationships to pieces. Come on, Chlo, what's to analyze? I love you, you love me, and the sex is great. I'm not seeing a lot of issues to resolve here."

"Um. Run that by me again."

"The sex is great?"

"No. Before that."

"Ah, the L word. I figured that would get your attention."

"Um, yeah. Who says I love you?"

"Duh, Chlo. You drop everything when I need you. I drop everything when you need me. We call each other ten times a day. We can't live without each other. Are you telling me that's not love?"

"I sort of thought it was friendship."

"And you said I was a moron."

"Well. Okay. Maybe it's love, sort of. Friendly love."

"Friendly love. Sounds good to me. So we'll have friendly sex."

"Ohhhh. I think I can live with that. As long as I get coffee afterwards."

"And muffins. Don't forget the muffins."

"Shut up about the muffins, okay?"

"Okay. Shutting up. Mmmm, you smell good. Sort of like muffins."

"Jerk."

"Ow. Geez, Chloe, you're brutal."

"Sorry. I just don't like being compared to baked goods all the time."

"I told you last night, I'm not a poet."

"That's pretty damn obvious."

"And I can't help it if you smell like muffins."

"I do not smell like... ohhh... oh, my God... that feels incredible. I love you, Clark."

"I love you too, Chlo. Almost as much as muffins."

"Almost as much?"

"Well, maybe a little more than muffins."

"And I love you a little more than coffee."

"My God. You do love me."

"No kidding, moron. Now shut up and make love to me."

"Okay. And afterwards I'll bring you some coffee."

"Wow. I guess I was wrong last night. You are the perfect man, after all."

Very cute. I always liked the original story and now knowing that Clark loves Chloe more than baked goods and Chloe loves him more than coffee...well it must be true love.

Thanks for the ficlet, it's the cure for the yak-inducing promo poster for Crimson.
